2023 Championship Show

Keeshond Club Championship Show April 2023

It was an honour to be invited to judge the Keeshond Club show and may I thank the committee for a lovely day and to the exhibitors for their entry and the graceful manor around the ring in which you took the placings. These results came from my findings on the
day. I would ask the breeders and exhibitors to pay attention to the correct height of dogs bred as per the breed standard. As far as our category 2 criteria is concerned re coats I only found one or two that were on the borderline but some of this could be due to the height of these dogs.

Minor Puppy Dog (2)
1. Axfords & Sherwood’s Watermyth Jewel of the Nest – a real baby at 6 months upstanding
of good size and shape showing promise. Excellent coat, colour and tail set. Still developing
in fore and hind quarters but good for age. Eyes colour, shape and set good. Excellent bite.
Movement from front, hind and profile very good. Head properties good for age I will be
interested to see him in 6 months. Best Puppy Dog
2. Gates Winklestar Alnair via Lacetrom – Smaller than 1 with good balance and shape. Good
coat and colour still showing daylight. Excellent tail set. Hind quarters good but would have
preferred a better hind action.
Puppy Dog (0)
Junior Dog (4, 1abs)
1. Downs Liefkees Assisi – Quality upstanding 13 month of good height in sufficient coat of
good length, texture colour and markings. Excellent head piece with all the correct markings.
Excellent wedge shaped head with good width of skull and length and depth of muzzle.
Good bite. Eye confirmation, shape and colour excellent. Ears of very good shape and set.
This boy is still developing however his front and hind quarters, shoulder placement and
shape of foot very good showing excellent all round movement with good front and hind gait.
Good tail set with black tip to tail coat. Dog CC & BOS
2. Roses Dianakees Inspector Morse at Esorkees – Another good shaped exhibit, size, coat
and colour. Good tail set. Good head properties, skull and neck. Eyes of good shape and
colour. Ears were of good size and shape. Movement was adequate while his make and
shape of quarters were good his hind movement was not so good today I would have liked
him to move at a better pace to assess properly.
3. Hopkins Serenaubach Draco – Good shape and general balance showing daylight. Good
coat and colour/markings. Good head properties but found his eye a little round in shape.
Lovely small ears. Fore and hind quarters satisfied which confirmed his construction and
movement.
Special Yearling Dog (1)
1. Saunders Liefkees Amore – General balance and neck gives his excellent shape showing
daylight under the body. Still in his junior coat of good texture and colour. The confirmation
of front and hind quarters and shoulder placement and gait confirmed his very good
movement. Good bite. Wedge shaped head when viewed from above I would have preferred
a better width of skull.
Post Graduate Dog (1)
1. Gardners Keitakees Small Town Boy with Manzanakees – Good general shape with coat
of good length showing daylight to ground. Coat texture and colour good. Excellent hind
quarters with good general movement. Head properties pleased with lovely small ears and
dark eye. I would have preferred a better balance of muzzle and a little more of him.

Limit Dog (4, 2abs)
1. Tew’s Torrikees Purple Rein – Excellent height, upstanding fore square showing excellent
general balance with full coat of good texture, colour and markings and excellent space
showing daylight under the coat. Tail set good. Good shape feet. Fore and hind quarters
were generally very good which confirmed his all round movement. I like the proportion of
head properties although eyes were a tad lighter and ears a tad bigger than I would have
preferred but in total this was sufficient to gain him the Res. Dog CC
2. Brunt’s Divnyi Drug Dar (imp Rus) – Good balance and shape a pity he had lost his
undercoat as this always gives a different picture although the texture of top coat and
colour/markings were sufficient. Good tail set. Good shape feet. The quarters and shoulder
placement confirmed construction. Head properties good although I would have liked a
better length/depth muzzle.
Open Dog (2)
1. Rose’s Rossvale Endeavour to Esorkees – Very good general shape although I would have
preferred his size to be a tad more all over to help with the daylight. In full coat of a rich dark
colour with good markings and texture. Good tail set. Good proportions of the head/skull
and muzzle. Good bite. Ear shape and size good. Eye colour good but would have preferred
a better shape. His very good front and rear quarters showed his good hind action/gait today.
2. Miles & Dean’s Ch Neradmik Kiss Chase with Lekkerbek – Upstanding male with good
general balance and daylight shown. Coat of good length to height of dog however today I
found the texture a tad woolly colour good with definite markings. Head showed good
wedge from above with skull and muzzle in proportion. Small ears. Eye colour/shape
showed his age today. Good tail set. Movement both fore and aft and profile confirmed his
construction. Best Veteran in Show
Champion Dog (3,1abs)

texture and length. Good height general balance and shape with enough daylight to floor.

was confirmed in the good all over movement and hind gait.

Upstanding male with good general balance and daylight to ground. Head proportions and
properties generally good however I would have preferred a better depth of muzzle. Good
bite. Would prefer a smaller ear and eye was a tad small. Coat texture, length and colour
good. Good tail set. I found him a little straight in hind quarters which showed in his
movement. Fore quarters good.
Veteran Dog (2, 1abs)
1. Miles, Cullen & Browns Ch. Rossevale Legacy for Lekkerbek – Good height, balance and
shape his coat was of good length, colour and texture that showed good daylight to floor.
Tail set good. Excellent feet shape. Good bite. Fore, Hind quarters and shoulder placement
very good showing his excellent gait/movement all round. To balance out the head
properties I would have preferred more length of muzzle. Has good ear placement and eye
colour and set.

Minor Puppy Bitch (1)
1. Gates Winklestar Alsephina via Lacetrom – She just screams Quality of good size for age
and so sweet and feminine she touched my heart and brought back memories. General
balance, shape and bone excellent. Coat of good colour, texture and markings for age. Tail
set, neck and bite good. Although this girl is still developing I found her present shoulder
placement very good as was her make of front and hind quarters and this shows movement
and gait that flows typical for the Keeshond on excellent bone. Head size/proportions all
over including the skull and length/depth of muzzle very good for its development. Good ear
size but would have preferred a better shape. Eye confirmation, set and colour good. I will

wide on front action but this should change with development. All round movement good.

places on another day.
1. Saunders Liefkees Aleida – Coat of good colour and markings showing excellent daylight.
Good height, general balance, shape and tail set. Good bite. Great wedge shape head from

showed her very good movement fore, aft and in profile.

shoulder placement which showed in her very good all round movement.
2. Ring’s Neradmik Tantrams N Tiaras – Although this girl was in full coat she did not have
the balance, or shape of 1. Coat, colour and texture good. Her construction both front and

Open Show January 2024

My thanks to the Club’s hard-working team and exhibitors for a thoroughly enjoyable day. This my first breed club appointment in Keeshonden felt very special, as it was the breed which introduced my family to the world of show dogs back in the mid‘70s. I found some beautiful typey examples, and found myself smiling at the reminder of just how delightfully challenging to show their typical Spitz character can make them!

2024 Championship Show

Keeshond Club Championship Show 31 August 2024
Thank you to the Officers and Committee for the Invitation to Judge at their Championship Show, any Club Show is an honour but much more so for a non Breed person.
Not a bad entry numerically but I was disappointed in the quality of some of the Exhibits, size and balance were a problem making decisions very difficult in some classes. I felt the Bitches overall were better than the dogs. Not an easy Appointment.

Puppy Dog(1)
1/ Miles / Dean and Cullen – Skylines Outlander at Lekkerbek (imp Usa), 11months well made youngster, scores for bone and feet body is developing well with good angulation fore and aft. When he settled he went well out and back. Hope he has finished growing.
Junior Dog (3)
1/ Johnston &Atkinson – Winkelstar Namid, felt this dog scored for balance over the second, he has a lovely front with good shoulders firm top line and good quarters. Nice coat texture and good reach and drive on the move.
2/ Comperat – Bargeway Boomerang, Liked the head eye and expression on this dog, very good pigment looks good on the stack. Strong hind action but not so positive in front as winner.
Post Graduate (2)
1/ Gate – Winkelstar Alnair via Lacetrom JW, Loved his size and balance great head and expression, well placed ears used to advantage. Excellent front with enough bone, nicely angulated. Good neck and firm topline steady mover out and back.
2/ Axford & Sherwood – Watermyth Jewel of the Nile, A little long in loin that said has good balance overall. Looks good in profile and has excellent quarters which he uses well on the move not quite the front of winner.

Limit Dog (6)
Very mixed Class
1/ Rose – Dianakees Inspector Morse at Esorkees, This dog gave his handler a hard time, but when he settled he handled well. Lovely coat and condition. Masculine head dark eyes providing for desired expression, well off for bone and good feet. He is well angulated fore and aft and when settled proved he can move. Has a lot to offer.
2/ Downs – Liefkees Assisi – A little long in loin so not the outline of winner on the stack. Nice head and eye good front though foot could be a little tighter. Ok on the move.
3/ Church – Shelderon Stemmig Sage with Tykess, 7 year old put a good performance here, felt he was up to size but handles well and very sound on the move.
Open Dog (4)
1/ Matthews – CH/ Winkelstar Deneb at Valindale, All male, still a youngster but full of quality, loved his head and expression. Excellent pigment, good for bone and feet. Well laid shoulder strong neck and firm body and top line. Great quarters strong mover with reach and drive. On top form CC / BOS.
2/ Rose – CH/ Rossvale Endeavour Endeavour to Esorkees, Loved the outline of this mature male, masculine head dark eye, strong neck and nicely ribbed body. He to gave his handler a hard time on the move and was a little untidy going away.
3/ Ring – Neradmik Shine on Harvey Moon (imp Can) well made, a little wide in front, that said he moves well out and back. Liked his overall size looks good in profile.
Champion Dog (5)
1/ Harris – CH/ Amikirs Loverboy for Watchkees, Great size and balance, would like a cleaner front, but good bone and feet. Liked his head and eye, good neck and shoulder. Well made right through sound mover.
2/ Brunt – CH/ Divnyi Drug Dar (imp RUS), Lovely overall shape with excellent top line maintained on the move. Moved with reach in front but a little close behind today.

Veteran Dog (2)
1/ Hickson – CH/ Kichigais Only the Lonely, loved this male and he was unlucky to meet the Winner today who I felt was in better coat. He is bang on for size, and balance, nicely angulated front and rear, great bone and feet. Deep well made body with good ribbing and firm top line. Very good on the move particularly in profile. RCC.
2/ Miles / Cullen & Brown – CH/ Rossvales Legacy for Lekkerbek, not the outline of the winner and felt he was a little heavy in bone, stands on good feet. Firm body in good coat and colour, not quite the rear assembly of winner. Sound mover.
Minor Puppy Bitch (1)
1/ Pattinson – Eastkees Amber Moon, raw baby very feminine and has much to offer when she settles to the task in hand. Just needs time a little erratic on the move here but in the finals looked much better so ended up Best Puppy.
Puppy Bitch (3)
1/ Dearman & Henson – Zandvoort Eternal Flame for Pyrekees, best outline and balance here, loved her overall size. Great head and eye, excellent mover out and back.
2/ Brunt – Zandvoort Moonlight , litter sister, felt not quite as firm in front nor the drive going away today. Lots to like just not as forward in development.
3/ Pattinson – Eastkees Lily of the Valley, very naughty here so difficult to assess appears to have all the essentials just needs firmer handling
Junior Bitch (3)
1/Marshall – Devonias Hakuna Matata JW, very promising youngster, loved her overall shape and balance. Scores in head and expression lovely pigment. Enough bone and good feet, clean shoulders with good body properties. Smart mover out and back.
2/ Gregory – Amikirs Pritti, Alittle finer right through, but again very good balance and has much to like. Not so positive on the move today as the winner.

Yearling (1)
1/ Brunt – Zandvoorts Graces Secret, Good size very nice head and expression, lovely front assembly deep well made body nice ribbing and strong quarters. Put up a good performance on the move.
Limit Bitch (4)
1/ Hopkins – Serenaubach Andromeda, beautiful head and expression dark eyes. Lovely balance to body, clean neck and shoulder with firm top line and strong quarters. She looks great when stacked and doesn’t disappoint on the move which is very true. Being hypercritical I would prefer a tad more length of leg. RCC RBIS
2/ Gate – Winklestar Alsephina via Lacetrom JW , a little more of her than the winner and felt she didn’t quite have the outline particularly on the go round. That said she has a feminine head of good balance, nice angulation in front and very sound.
3/ Brunt – Goldgin Chanel (Imp Rus), longer type in body and not so good in front as winners. Good action going away.
Champion Bitch (2)
1/ Ring – CH/ Neradmik Tantrums N Tiara, beautiful head and eyes providing for desired expression. Balanced front with good bone feet and angulation. Clean neck and shoulder, well made body firm top lien and strong quarters. Great on the move nice reach and drive. CC BIS
2/ Redler – CH/ Keitakees You are My World, not dissimilar to winner though not the expression. Equally good in body and great on the move lovely outline on the move.
Veteran Bitch (5)

2025 August Championship Show

Judge: Laura Newman

What a wonderful privilege to be invited to judge this show.  Thank you to committee members for the organisation including the beautiful rosettes and special awards.  Thank you to exhibitors. The Keeshonden entered today were presented beautifully and I found all to be in very good health.  For breeding and the future of the breed I would like to note here that there are quite a lot of shoulders with a straighter angulation than desired.  I think the illustrated breed standard created by the Keeshond Club is very helpful in showing what we are aiming for.  The best movement was in the dogs with the well sloped shoulder angulation.  Temperaments were super and I enjoyed meeting each and every exhibit.  I had a wonderful day thank you.

Class 1. Baby Puppy Dog (0 entries)

Class 2. Baby Puppy Bitch (0 entries)

Class 3. Minor Puppy Dog (1 entry) Abs: 0

1st: FEDELI’S Neradmik First Noel

Good size for a youngster, square and compact.  Head was well proportioned, wedge shaped, and eye of correct size, set and colour which completed a lovely expression. Well sprung ribs and good width in forequarters.  Coat of clear colour and contrast, completing a typical profile.  Went well on the move for a youngster and I am sure will tighten up with maturity.  Very promising.

Class 4. Puppy Dog (1 entry) Abs: 0

1st: BENNETT’S Zandvoort Mr Sunshine

Mature, strong bone for his age and with a splendid coat, this young dog has a striking ring presence. Alert expression. Well arched neck. Head correctly shaped and proportioned.  His clear spectacle markings frame eyes of good shape and colour.  Ears a little on the larger side.  Strong front and rear quarters with sound construction and consequently he moved well. Cat-like feet. He carries well plumed tail high.  I really liked his dark colour and contrasts. Best Puppy Dog and Best Puppy in Show

Class 5. Junior Dog (4 entries) Abs: 0

1st: ROSE’S Amikirs Uncle Fester with Esorkees

At 10 months of age a striking youngster with strong bone.  Front quarters constructed well and I noted his correct slope of shoulder.  Equally sound in rear.  Consequently, movement also sound. High set tail and well carried, completing a nice profile with arched neck. Wedge shaped head, and excellent alert expression with small neat ears, clear spectacle markings and eye of correct colour and shape. Dark colouring and clear coat contrasts.

2nd: CHURCH’S Voila Mon Vadim Damour for Tykees

Different in type to 1 but also with many excellent features. Square and short coupled with a good reach of neck giving him a great profile.  More upright in shoulder construction. Lovely expression. Eyes dark in colour and almond shaped. His coat is lighter in shade but with clear markings.  Quite a lot of pencilling on feet which will hopefully reduce with maturity. He was not moving his best today.

3rd: MATTHEWS, MATTHEWS AND LEE’S Valindale A Touch of Royale

Different again in style to 1 and 2.  Alert expression and showed a very likeable character.  His head is great, wedge shaped with small neat ears, dark eyes and excellent coat with clear colour contrasts.  He was slightly longer in the body compared with those placed above and similar to 2 being more upright in shoulder construction. Another one who made his owner work very hard on the move!

The Keeshond Club, 27/01/24

My thanks to the Club’s hard-working team and exhibitors for a thoroughly enjoyable day. This my first breed club appointment in Keeshonden felt very special, as it was the breed which introduced my family to the world of show dogs back in the mid‘70s. I found some beautiful typey examples, and found myself smiling at the reminder of just how delightfully challenging to show their typical Spitz character can make them!
